Director, Valuation
Position Overview:
Our client is an established alternative investment manager with a long-standing track record of deploying flexible capital across private equity and credit strategies. The firm is known for its disciplined approach to complex, often illiquid investment situations, investing across the capital structure in sectors where it has built deep expertise over multiple market cycles. With a global footprint and an institutional investor base, the firm has earned a reputation for rigorous underwriting, sound valuation governance, and consistent performance.
As the platform continues to grow with new fund vehicles, co-investment programs, and separately managed accounts, the firm is selectively adding senior talent to strengthen its valuation and reporting infrastructure.
The firm is seeking a Director of Valuation and Portfolio Analytics to join its finance organization. This is a visible, senior role that sits at the center of the quarterly valuation cycle, working directly with the CFO, investment committees, auditors, fund administrators, and external valuation providers. The person in this seat will have real ownership, access to leadership, and room to grow with the platform.
Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):
- Own the quarterly valuation process for illiquid investments across private fund vehicles, co-investment structures, SPVs, and separately managed accounts
- Prepare fair value analyses, valuation support packages, and portfolio monitoring materials for review by finance leadership, investment teams, and valuation committees
- Work closely with investment teams to evaluate portfolio company performance, credit quality, market dynamics, liquidity considerations, and investment-specific valuation drivers
- Drive preparation for valuation committee meetings, including supporting analysis, market data, methodology documentation, and investment-level commentary
- Coordinate with external valuation providers on data requests, methodology review, and quarterly deliverables
- Review administrator-prepared NAV packages and portfolio schedules for accuracy and consistency
- Support annual and interim audit processes, including fair value documentation, testing support, and responses to auditor inquiries
- Prepare recurring portfolio analytics on performance, credit metrics, exposure data, and valuation movement for the CFO and senior leadership
- Work with investor relations on portfolio reporting, LP data requests, and quarterly materials tied to valuation and performance
- Contribute to valuation governance, internal controls, and process improvements as the platform continues to scale
Qualifications:
- 7 or more years of experience in valuation, portfolio analytics, or fund finance within private markets; candidates at the VP level who are ready to step into a Director seat are encouraged to apply
- Direct experience with private credit and/or private equity is required; exposure to opportunistic or special situations strategies is a plus
- Meaningful involvement in quarterly fair value processes across illiquid Level 3 assets, including DCF, comparable company, yield-based, and NAV methodologies
- Experience supporting or managing valuation committee preparation, external provider coordination, and fund administrator oversight
- Solid audit support background across fair value documentation, testing, and inquiry response; candidates who have contributed to improving valuation processes will stand out
- Working knowledge of complex fund structures including co-investments, SMAs, and SPVs, along with experience supporting LP reporting
- Strong financial modeling skills in Excel; familiarity with Bloomberg, Capital IQ, PitchBook, or FactSet; any exposure to Tableau, Power BI, SQL, or Python is welcome
- Someone who communicates well across investment professionals, finance leadership, and external counterparties and is comfortable at a senior table
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field required; CFA progress or CPA designation a strong plus
