VP/SVP, Performance
Our client is a leading, privately held US-based alternative investment firm with a 20+ year track record (~$18 billion AUM). They serve a global institutional investor base from their LA headquarters, supported by a scaled and integrated investment platform.
The firm invests across public and private markets with a focus on corporate credit, private credit, liquid credit, asset-backed finance, and opportunistic strategies. Guided by disciplined underwriting, broad research resources, and strong institutional relationships, the firm provides flexible and solutions-oriented capital to pensions, insurers, endowments, sovereign wealth funds, and family offices.
They are seeking a VP/SVP, Performance to join their growing team in a hands-on capacity focused on analyzing portfolio results, identifying performance trends, and delivering insights that support investment decision-making. The role includes helping to manage the firm’s performance data environment and ensuring information is accurate, consistent, and readily available across the organization.
A key responsibility will be to strengthen performance measurement, reporting, and database governance. This includes creating standardized processes, improving documentation, and overseeing ongoing adherence to Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS), along with all related verification work.
This individual will work directly with complex performance analytics, including multi-level attribution, and translate these findings into clear insights for portfolio managers, senior leadership, client service, sales, and marketing teams. The role offers meaningful ownership, day-to-day impact, and strong growth potential as the platform continues to expand.
Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):
- Manage the full evaluation of portfolio and strategy performance, including calculating, reviewing, and interpreting results across security, sector, asset class, and other levels.
- Conduct multi-factor and multi-level attribution analyses using Brinson, transaction-based, and factor-based methodologies to identify key performance drivers.
- Build, refine, and maintain a comprehensive performance data warehouse that incorporates internal and external data sources, ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
Establish and enhance standardized processes for performance data management, analytics, and reporting, and document and improve measurement and reporting practices across all strategies.
- Oversee the firm’s GIPS compliance program, including preparation for verification and periodic performance audits.
- Partner with portfolio managers to validate performance drivers and translate complex attribution work into clear, audience-appropriate insights for internal teams and external clients.
- Develop reporting materials, presentations, dashboards, and communication tools that make sophisticated analytics accessible to non-technical audiences, and support ongoing enhancements to analytics and automation capabilities.
- Reconcile performance results with accounting data and trade records, serve as the primary resource for investor and consultant questions, and stay current on industry best practices, regulatory developments, and technology improvements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field (advanced credentials such as a Master’s degree or the CFA are preferred).
- A minimum of 7+ years of experience in performance measurement, attribution analysis, or a similar analytical role within asset management, hedge funds, or investment banking.
- Strong knowledge of investment products, portfolio construction, performance reporting, and attribution methodologies, supported by advanced Excel skills and familiarity with systems such as Bloomberg PORT, FactSet, Barra, Wilshire, Eze, or comparable platforms.
- Experience with programming languages including VBA, SQL, Python, or R is a plus.
- Proven communication skills with the ability to translate complex quantitative analysis into clear, compelling insights for diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated leadership and project management ability, with strong motivation, organizational discipline, and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
