Total Compensation is targeted at $175K - $215K. To be determined based on candidate's credentials, experiences, and potential value to the department / firm. Position can be located in either the Los Angeles or NYC offices.

Position Overview:

Our client is a privately held alternative asset manager with a 20+ year track record (~$20 billion AUM) serving institutional investors globally. Headquartered in the U.S. with offices in major financial centers, the firm specializes in credit and multi‑strategy investing across public and private markets, with expertise in distressed debt, special situations, senior loans, structured credit, direct lending, securitized products, and event‑driven opportunities. Known for its disciplined, risk‑aware approach and strong sponsor relationships, the firm serves pensions, insurers, endowments, sovereign wealth funds, and family offices through flagship funds and bespoke mandates — delivered by a collaborative, governance‑driven team.

 

They are seeking an accomplished AVP, Data Management to help lead the firm’s data function — ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and strategic use of financial data across the platform. This individual will oversee the security master database, drive rigorous validation and reconciliation, and develop automated reports, advanced SQL queries, and scalable solutions to optimize workflows. The role also integrates internal and external data sources into robust, seamless systems while identifying process improvements and aligning initiatives with firm‑wide priorities. Responsibilities (will include but not be limited to):

  • Strategic Data Stewardship: Lead the maintenance and ongoing enhancement of the firm’s security master database, ensuring comprehensive and accurate representation of all securities.
  • Rigorous Data Quality Control: Execute comprehensive validation checks to verify data integrity, consistency, and completeness across multiple sources, promptly resolving any discrepancies.
  • Insightful Reporting & Automation: Direct the design, production, and automation of sophisticated reports encompassing security attributes, trading activity, and data quality metrics.
  • Advanced SQL Development: Craft and manage robust SQL queries for complex data extraction, aggregation, and reporting. Champion the deployment of automated, scalable solutions to streamline data workflows and enhance reporting efficiency.
  • Seamless Data Integration: Orchestrate the integration of data from disparate internal and external systems into the firm’s security master and affiliated databases, ensuring smooth system interconnectivity.
  • Process Excellence: Drive continual process improvement by implementing cutting‑edge best practices to elevate accuracy, efficiency, and scalability in data management.
  • Cross‑Functional Partnership: Serve as a trusted partner to cross‑functional teams, ensuring data management initiatives support and advance the firm’s broader strategic priorities.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline; advanced degree preferred.
  • Extensive experience in financial data management within the investment management or financial services sector, with a strong track record of leadership in complex, high‑impact data initiatives.
  • Technical Mastery including expertise in SQL and Excel at an advanced level
  • Deep knowledge of data management frameworks, database architectures, and ensuring data integrity
  • Strong familiarity with financial markets and fixed‑income products
  • Precision & Analytical Rigor / Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to identify and resolve subtle discrepancies within large, complex data sets.
  • Problem‑Solving Orientation including strong analytical and creative thinking to develop pragmatic, elegant solutions to data challenges.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders with clarity and confidence.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives, inspire collaboration, and drive results across diverse, high‑performing teams.
