TOTAL COMPENSATION is targeted at ~$140K - $170K. Compensation will be determined based on candidate’s credentials, performance and value added to the firm / department.  

 

Finance Manager / Assistant Controller

 

Our client is a global Investment Manager (headquartered in Europe) with transaction expertise across the Real Estate spectrum. They specialize in originating and managing opportunistic transactions through SPV funds serving a wide array of institutional, Family Office and High Net Worth investors.  

 

Currently they seek to hire a Finance Manager/ Asst. Controller help build out their financial operations team for their expanding US business (based in Boston, MA). As a member of the senior leadership team, the Finance Manager/ Asst. Controller will play a key strategic role in the continued growth of the organization. This position will be a senior member of the US finance team that supports the Investment and Investor Relations teams for the lifecycle of investments. Ideal candidates will have a proven track record in finance with a desire to work in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment.

 

Responsibilities will include supervising a team of senior and junior accountants (in house and outsourced), managing annual audit and tax return preparation, ensuring the accounting for the investments/deals are accurate and reporting is completed accurately and on time. Additional duties will include strategic initiatives that help in the firm’s continued growth and development (including structuring of investments, the potential launch of discretionary funds, general financing strategy for the business and individual investments, etc). This is a hands-on role with continually evolving priorities and requirements.

 

Specific responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Support the Finance Director/ Controller in organizing the work of the finance team
  • Treasury management for investments and corporate entities
  • Interrogate monthly financial reports received from property managers
  • Review of payment runs including all capex requests
  • Preparation of budgets and financial forecasts for both the investments and corporate entities
  • Oversee the review of the reporting requirements for all entities including those accounted in-house to ensure outputs are accurate and prepared on a timely basis
  • Support the audit and tax return preparation processes to ensure deadlines are met
  • Assist with the acquisitions of new investments and disposals of existing investments
  • Prepare waterfall distribution calculations and the required notices to investors
  • Ensure investor records are accurate and consistent across all platforms
  • Improve processes, reducing manual elements of accounts preparation and maximizing automation
  • Improve controls to safeguard investor money
  • Support the managing of all tax planning and compliance with all required federal, state, local, payroll, property and other applicable taxes
  • Assist with any ad-hoc duties

 

Qualifications:

  • 5 + years of financial / accounting experience (2+ in real estate / private equity / alternative investment). Previous experience in public accounting a definite plus.
  • CPA or equivalent advanced degree (+)
  • Ability to excel in fast paced environment with ever changing priorities
  • Advanced Excel experience essential, proficient in other Microsoft Office Suite programs
  • Previous consolidation experience essential
  • Previous experience of managing and developing staff
  • Previous experience with implementing an accounting system would be beneficial
