Director of Finance 
 
Our client is a well-established Real estate ownership and operating company, specializing in ownership, development, and managing of commercial office properties throughout the NY / Tri-State Area, currently seeking to hire a Director of Finance.
 
The Director of Finance will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing and controlling all financial-related activities of the company and coordinating best practices and financial management with finance and accounting teams at the corporate level and various portfolio projects.  The candidate will be overseeing all accounting functions such as ledger accounts, financial statements, and cost control systems.  Their focus includes regulatory compliance and practices and collaborating with the company owners in developing financial strategies.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Direct and oversee all aspects of the Finance & Accounting functions of the organization.
  • Provide strategic leadership in the planning and monitoring of short and long-term strategic financial objectives.
  • Provide timely and accurate preparation and analysis of budgets, financial trends and forecasts.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior executives to identify ongoing needs and seek full range of business solutions including use of real time business intelligence and key performance indicator tools.
  • Partner with company owners to determine accounting and tax implications for all material business decisions;
  • Manage processes for financial forecasting, budgets and consolidation and reporting to the Company
  • Manage all aspects of commercial debt portfolio, including compliance and reporting
  • Review all documentation and contracts to develop and improve internal controls;
  • Oversee and manage financial reporting - including drafting and reviewing documents, ensuring quality, and administering strict timeline;
  • Managing transaction accounting, the closing process, and other financial controls;
  • Overseeing General Ledger functions; assure accuracy, timeliness, and conformity with professional accounting standards and best practices in accordance with GAAP;
  • Acting as a liaison to external auditing firms, while owning primary responsibility for the Company’s views on technical accounting matters;
  • Collaborating and contributing to the Senior Leadership Team to improve overall company performance;
  • Overseeing tax compliance and strategy, as well as, capital assets;
  • Working with senior management to ensure internal compliance.
Requirements:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in accounting; Master’s Degree is a plus
  • CPA certification (MUST)
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in a real estate financial leadership position;
  • Previous experience managing finance and accounting functions;
  • Understanding of tax regulations and compliance;
  • Experience navigating through complete technical research;
  • Strong proficiency in financial software;
  • Exceptional business acumen.
  • Experienced partnering with an Executive Team
  • Strong, proactive communicator with ability to lead a team and help initiate constructive change.
  • High level of communication skills; Oral and written
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills and present a professional image both in person and over the phone
  • Tax experienced and knowledgeable
  • Excellent references required from current and previous employers
  • Multi-entity management; Construction management; Retail management; Real Estate management
  • Ability to take initiative and ownership of projects and see through to completion
  • Must be able to handle multiple time-sensitive projects and prioritize heavy workloads
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed to complete time-sensitive projects
  • Meticulous eye for detail, accuracy, and high standards of presentation
  • Extreme organizational and time management skills
